Hair DO

Elsa's hair is finally, finally long enough to get into one little ponytail. It looks like a bun because it's so short, and there are lots of little pieces which find their way out over the course of the day, but whatever.

I love this look - something is so very right about a non-distracting hairstyle on a pretty little girl.

Check out who is out of the high chair, and doesn't want a booster seat...

04/18: at Kate's!

Happily hanging out with my sister Kate (AKA Agapantha, among many other names...) in Austin, TX.  She was kind enough to hang this sign I made for her at her new casa.

This is the crowd waiting to be seated at The Salt Lick.  I have one word for you:  YUM.

This is the Congress Street bridge - we (and loads of others!) were waiting for the famous bats to make their appearance. So very cool when they did.

Austin rocks.

04/17: SFO

This is the international terminal at SFO - seriously, there was NO ONE there.  The volcano really messed up flights, I guess, and people are truly stuck.  Was great for me, though!  (JetBlue flies out of the international terminal in San Francisco for some reason).  I sailed through security and had the whole joint to myself.

4/16: the essence of elsa

I am loving this shot - pretty much captures the very essence of Elsa: a wacky (self-selected) outfit, hair with a mind of its own, a huge sense of delight and energy, and all of it in flight...  all that's missing is the soundtrack. :-)

4/15: the pile

just inside my bedroom door lives this pile of shoes that I kick off as soon as I can upon arriving home...  apparently the last several days have been mostly sporty / flats kind of days.  except for that groovy sandal day.

She has the best seat in the house. And works it.

4/13: progress

without giving details (you're welcome), I'll just say we are making progress in this department over here.

4/12: out with the old

This is my old engagement ring. It's been sitting in a box in a drawer for the last 8(!) years, since that engagement hit the skids.  I have finally decided to have it re-set - turn it into something less engagementy, and wear the damn thing. The diamonds came from my granny, so have massive sentimental value.

This is the photo I sent to a friend of a friend who works in the jewelry biz, who has agreed to help me get it done... kind of excited!!

4/11: culinary highs and lows

so the rainy beach weekend was focused on indoor pursuits, given the weather.  top of the list was eating and drinking. :-)

First, there was the freaky tomato that sprouted on the inside (no, we didn't eat it):

I attempted to make croissants and burned the ever-loving-crap out of them:

Suzanne made an all-star dinner Sunday night, on the other hand, that was spectacular.  Mac and cheese (with a crispy crumbly topping that included bacon!) and the best fried Brussels sprouts ever.   So so so good.  Here we are, about to make ourselves nearly sick from eating so much of it.

(What, three bottles of wine for three adults is not normal for you?  The fourth one was just out of the frame...  hope that makes you feel better.)

4/10: stormy beach weekend

We went out to beautiful Stinson beach this weekend - just in time for quite the dramatic storm.   Arrived Saturday afternoon and had about an hour of windy weather before the downpour arrived.  Luckily we made a quick dash to the beach during that window of time... so at least I got sand between my toes, even if just for 10 minutes.

Suzanne and India both enjoyed it very much, as did I.  Elsa on the other hand, was decidedly against the idea of being on the beach.  so we had to cut it short and head back to the casa..

04/09: the impatient toddler

Elsa is waiting for a promised treat (animal cookies) for good behavior in the bath and while I did her hair.  She is not amused that I'm taking time to take a photo. :-)

04/06: the crap table

This table, just inside my front door, is the official catcher of:

1.  crap I am holding when I come in the house and immediately drop
2.  crap I don't know where to put
3.  crap I am too lazy to put away
4.  crap I need to take with me so have to have in sight or I will forget

A few of the currently featured items, from left to right:
  • a Pier One bag with various small gifties that I picked up the other day
  • Elsa's shoes (2 pair)
  • a red neoprene wine carrier
  • a skype headset I borrowed from a friend
  • something precious wrapped in bubblewrap - no clue what it is
  • large ziplock with diapers, wipes, and an extra pair of pants (the standard leaving-the-house purse kit)
  • a birthday gift for my friend Naomi, which I forgot to bring to the office so is now even later than it was already
  • a lime green note from school reminding me that I have not fulfilled my volunteer hour commitment. shocking.
  • a See's Candy bag which is (sadly) no longer filled with candy but instead holds random crap that I brought in from the car to put away.  so, that's going well.
  • a pile of CDs (mostly buried)
  • a muffin tin returned to me by my mother
  • a black sweater that is too big for Elsa but I keep trying on her because it's pretty
  • a box of solar lighting for my front walk - has been opened for two weeks but that's as far as I've gotten.
